Organized Crime and Coruption Project

OCCRP and the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) in Washington and the Jefferson Institute in Belgrade announced their cooperation on a new regional investigative journalism initiative. The Regional Investigative Journalism Network (RIJN) project is a three year initiative funded by USAID that is designed to improve the capacities of investigative reporting centers.  It will also support crossborder investigative initiatives focusing on organized crime and corruption. The project will include work in Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Russia and Ukraine.

"USAID has been a leader in tackling corruption and organized crime though media efforts. We thank them for their support in this area and while there are enormous challenges ahead, we look forward to them" said Drew Sullivan, Advising Editor to the OCCRP.

OCCRP and ICFJ are also cooperating on the Investigative Dashboard (ID) project, an initiative sponsored by the Open Society Foundation. The project is designed to provide world class research for non-profit investigative reporting organizations.

"ID will provide reporters around the world who don't normally get this kind of research with the information they need to do collaborative projects," said Paul Radu, Executive Director or OCCRP.

The RIJN project, through the Jefferson Institute, will help by building a collaborative workspace for reporters in smaller countries to help them work better together.
